Official recognition for your Extreme Triathlon event:

XTRI World Tour is a series of hand-picked extreme triathlon events around the world. Our mission is to ensure that races adhere to the highest standards of safety, consistency, and authenticity, staying true to the spirit of extreme triathlon. We work closely with race organisers to uphold the integrity of the sport while delivering unforgettable experiences to athletes and local communities.

A true XTRI follows a set of fundamental principles that define the sport and ensure an exceptional race experience. While each event is unique, all XTRI-recognised races share the following key elements:

  • Incredible locations with extreme elements – Our races feature challenging and technical terrain, often incorporating extreme height gain, cold water swims, high-altitude sections, intense weather conditions, or other natural challenges that test athletes well beyond a standard long-distance triathlon.

  • Community involvement – A strong connection with the local community is essential. Engaging local businesses, services, and culture. Extreme triathlon is about integration, not disruption.

  • Self-supported bike leg – No roadside aid stations; athletes rely on pre-arranged car or personal support, enhancing the race atmosphere and strategy.

  • Support runner section – Some courses require a support runner for safety, camaraderie, and morale, along with the possibility of extra equipment in extreme conditions.

  • Alternative routes – Logistical challenges may require a limited field to complete certain course sections, with an alternative route available when necessary. Different finisher shirts may be issued for varied courses.

  • Limited field size (250 athletes max) – Our extreme triathlons require a manageable number of participants to ensure safety, environmental responsibility, and an intimate race experience.

  • No relay teams – XTRI is a solo endeavour, requiring the mental and physical endurance of each individual athlete.

  • Comprehensive safety measures – Each event must have a full safety package, including water rescue, mountain rescue (if applicable), and medical support, all sourced locally to ensure proper response capabilities.

By joining the XTRI World Tour, race organisers benefit from:

  • 25+ Years of event organisation experience. 100s of successful races delivered. Global recognition – our network is large and loyal.

  • Marketing & athlete exposure – Access to our extensive global database of endurance athletes seeking new challenges.

  • Safety & race support – Guidance on best practices, course design, logistics, and crisis management.

  • Authenticity & legacy – Ensuring your race is developed with the true spirit of extreme triathlon.

Important notice to race organisers:

Extreme triathlon is growing rapidly, and with that growth comes the risk of misrepresentation by unofficial groups claiming to offer guidance and recognition. Extreme Triathlon races are complex and present significant risks. If you are an event organiser, please ensure you are working with companies/ groups that have the experience, framework and necessary insurance to support you. Only events officially recognised by XTRI World Tour are part of our network.

If you have been approached by third parties claiming to offer “help” with organising an extreme triathlon, please verify their credentials before engaging with them.

Only XTRI-recognised events receive our official support, ensuring your race aligns with the true spirit and values of the sport. If you are unsure whether a group is legitimate, contact us at info@xtriworldtour.com for verification.
